METHODOLOGY FOR THE PREPARATION OF STATISTICAL INDICATORS ON COMMERCIAL FISHING IN DISTANT FISHING AREAS AND THE BALTIC SEA, AND ON THE FISHING FLEET

The Methodology for the Preparation of Statistical Indicators on Commercial Fishing in Distant Fishing Areas and the Baltic Sea, and on the Fishing Fleet, approved by Order No. V1-61 of the Director of the Fisheries Service of 15 April 2026, establishes the procedure for the collection, processing, quality assurance, preparation and dissemination of statistical information on data managed by the Fisheries Service concerning economic operators engaged in commercial fishing with fishing vessels in distant fishing areas and in the Baltic Sea.

In the European Union (EU), fisheries statistical data have been collected since 1950. Lithuania has been submitting this statistical information to the EU statistical office, hereinafter referred to as Eurostat, since 2005.

The collection of fisheries data in EU countries is carried out in order to compare statistical information between countries, enabling the fisheries sector to be analysed at EU level and the implementation of the EU fisheries policy and fisheries management capacities to be assessed.

The Methodology for the Preparation of Statistical Indicators on Commercial Fishing in Distant Fishing Areas and the Baltic Sea, and on the Fishing Fleet is available here.
