Fisheries monitoring and control

  • The implementation of laws governing the use of fish stocks in the areas of fisheries control and monitoring is being carried out;
  • the control and monitoring of the use of fish stocks is carried out in the territorial waters of the Republic of Lithuania in the Baltic Sea, the exclusive economic zone, the established places for unloading of fisheries products, industrial-commercial fishing companies, fishing vessels and vehicles;
  • unloading and reloading operations of fishing vessels of the European Community, Republic of Lithuania and third countries are inspectedin Klaipėda State seaport;
  • the work of fishing vessels of the Republic of Lithuania in the water areas regulated by regional fisheries organisations and in the water areas of economic zones of foreign countries is organised and controlled, international inspections (NAFO, NEAFC RegulatoryAreas)areattended;
  • information about the catches, unloadingand first sale of fisheries products by fishing companies is collected;

 

  • permits to engage in commercial fishing in the open Baltic Sea and in the littoral zone, special permits to engage in commercial cod fishing in the Baltic Sea and special fishing permits (for scientific investigative fishing in the Baltic Sea) are issued;
  • cases of administrative offences are handled;
  • the activities of the Fishery Monitoring using the satellite-based fishing vessel monitoring system is carried out;
  • the satellite-based fishing vessel monitoring system (VMS), the integrated fisheries data information system (IFDIS) and the Electronic Fishing Logbook System (vCatch) of the Republic of Lithuaniaas well as other systemsare administered, the procedures for the management, use and disposal thereof are established, it is ensured that these systems comply with the requirements of the most recent legal acts regulating the implementation of controls in Lithuania;
  • priornotices about the planned arrival of fishing vessels of the European Community, the Republic of Lithuania and third countries in the Klaipėda State Seaport are accepted;
  • fishing quotas are distributed to Lithuanian fishing companies, fishing quota exchanges between the Republic of Lithuania and other countries are carried out;
  • data on the fishing of the vessels of the Republic of Lithuania in the water areas regulated by regional fisheries organisations, waters of foreign countries and remote fishing areas and on the fishing of vessels of third countries are collected, and they are submitted, under the established procedure, to interested Lithuanian institutions, foreign countries andinternational organisations;
  • the Internet site of the Fisheries Service, which is used to transfer information on IT system control and catches to the European Commission and other institutions responsible for fisheries control, is administered and coordinated.
